The Widow

I (53) had recently returned from overseas after years away. I returned to my old hometown; my parents were both deceased. I inherited the family property, 12 acres, and had two grown children making their own lives. My ex-wife had remarried; back on the family property, I was settling in. Working via the internet and never good at housework, I decided to hire a housekeeper. I advertised and got no replies in my county. But did from a county two away from mine. A widow, 48, with no children applied; she asked only one question. Was the position live-in? I hadn't intended it to be, but was desperate enough to say it was able to be live-in. I hadn't yet met her only talked on the phone. I agreed to meet her in her county, as she had no transport of her own. I don't really know what I expected her to look like, but I was taken aback, as she was quite attractive for her age. I found out she hadn't finished her schooling, had married young, and was pregnant as well. Lost the child during a miscarriage and was unable to have another. When her husband died in a car accident, the bank took just about everything she had. With no real work qualifications and told about my job vacancy by the local librarian. She rang me, and I hired her, and she returned with me. The first few weeks, we got to know each other and became friends, more than just boss and employee. Nothing sexual in our friendship. That changed when I had to go to the state capitol for a meeting; everyone had to be there, with no zooming in via the internet. She had never been to the Capitol or any city, for that matter. As there might be a social event attached, I took her to be my partner at any such event, just in case. There wasn't, but we shared a hotel room and had three nights in the Capitol. Things took their course, you could say; first, we just went to a movie, next night, a dinner at a restaurant, and the third and last night we became lovers. In the months since, we have married and are happy with our lives.
